Job Description

Contract Opportunity: Fundraising Specialist

(Grants, Strategy, and Donor Development Support)

Advocate Fundraising (AF) is seeking two contract-based Fundraising Specialists to support a growing portfolio of non-profit clients across Canada.

This opportunity is best suited for experienced professionals already working in the sector who are looking to contribute to additional projects, generate income, and create meaningful impact.

About Advocate Fundraising (https://www.advocatefundraising.ca/)

Advocate Fundraising is a consulting firm rooted in advocacy, ethics, and impact.

We support non-profit organizations through:

  • grant writing and prospecting
  • fund development strategy
  • donor and campaign planning
  • sponsorship positioning and messaging

Our work is grounded in the belief that fundraising is advocacy. We prioritize alignment, transparency, and long-term sustainability.

No two client engagements are the same. Each requires thoughtful, strategic, and ethical approaches.

Scope of Work

Work may include:

  • Grant research, writing, and application development
  • Supporting Mini-Grant Packages (research, drafting, revisions)
  • Developing and refining fundraising materials (case for support, messaging, templates)
  • Supporting donor and sponsorship positioning (strategy and content, not outreach)
  • Prospect research and funding alignment
  • Contributing to fundraising strategy and execution across client projects

Work will vary month-to-month based on client needs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in grant writing (required)
  • Strong writing and storytelling ability
  • Ability to think strategically and contribute beyond basic execution
  • Experience with donor development, sponsorship, or fund development (asset)
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Clear, proactive communication

This role is best suited for someone who:

  • already works in fundraising or a related role
  • is confident working within client environments
  • can step into projects and contribute without heavy oversight

How We Work

  • This is a contract-based role (not employment)
  • Work is project-based and variable
  • Some months may have minimal hours, others may have higher volume (0–60 hours)
  • Availability and capacity will be discussed and respected
  • Compensation will be discussed based on scope and experience

Requirements

  • Based in Canada
  • Reliable computer and internet access
  • Willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement

Access to platforms such as CharityCAN or Grant Connect is considered an asset.

Equity and Accessibility

Advocate Fundraising prioritizes inclusive and equitable opportunities.

Priority will be given to:

  • Persons with disabilities
  • Newcomers to Canada
  • BIPOC applicants

If accommodations are required during the application or interview process, please let us know. We are committed to supporting you.

How to Apply

Please submit:

  • a brief cover letter or email outlining your experience
  • examples of relevant work (if available)
  • a summary of your fundraising experience beyond grant writing
  • your typical rate range (hourly or per-project)

Send to: advocatefundraising@gmail.com

Only those chosen for an interview will be contacted.

This is not a volume-based role. We are looking for strong contributors who care about doing this work well.

Pay: $30.00-$85.00 per hour

Application question(s):

  • Do you have experience working with Canadian non-profit organizations?

(Optional – tech, communication, or anything else that helps you feel supported.)

Experience

  • Grant Writing: 4 years (required)
