Job Description

Busy Dermatology office in Fairfax, VA area seeks an experienced and personable team player for a front and back office Medical Assistant position in a growing Dermatology practice.

This versatile role is dedicated to elevating the patient experience from start to finish. By seamlessly bridging front-office coordination with clinical support, you will serve as a navigator for our patients' healthcare journey.

Front Office Responsibilities:

  • Answer incoming calls and triage appropriately
  • Accurately collect and input comprehensive patient demographic, insurance, and appointment information, from various methods, into the electronic health records (EHR) system
  • Ensure all necessary patient details, including guarantor information for minors, are recorded during initial contact or check-in.
  • Manage patient communication regarding required documentation and portal access.

Insurance and Eligibility Verification:

  • Collect and process detailed insurance information, including policy details and policy holder data.
  • Candidates should be familiar with insurance payers and be proficient in performing eligibility checks.
  • Verify coverage status, copayment, deductible, and coinsurance amounts.
  • Communicate coverage status to patients, address discrepancies with payers, and ensure required authorizations (e.g., HMO referrals, Medicare referring providers) are in place prior to the appointment.

Financial Transactions:

  • Process and collect required patient payments, such as specialist copays and amounts toward remaining deductibles, during the check-in or check-out process.
  • Adhere strictly to established financial policies regarding the collection of payments when a patient has multiple insurance plans.

Clinic Flow Management:

  • Manage the patient check-in process by verifying identity, collecting ID and insurance cards for scanning, and confirming completion of necessary forms.
  • Coordinate the check-out process, including scheduling follow-up appointments and collecting final payments

Back office Medical Assistant Clinical Duties:

  • Ensure examination rooms are prepared for patient appointments, maintaining cleanliness and readiness for each visit.
  • Clean of exam chairs, and counters and disinfection of each room after patient visits, maintaining hygiene and sanitation standards.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms
  • Scribe for providers in electronic medical record and assist providers during consultations and procedures.
  • Assist during MOHS surgical procedures
  • Patient intake processes, including obtaining blood pressures, medical histories, and medication lists as required & confirming the purpose of the visit. (Following MIPS requirements)
  • Present the patient to the physician with the patient's history and concerns, prior to the doctor entering the room, and clarify the reason for their visit.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments and equipment following daily established protocols to ensure safety and infection control.
  • Monthly -Prepare surgical trays and assist in setting up procedures for MOHS surgeries.
  • Weekly: Monitor and restock examination rooms and supply cabinets with necessary medical supplies
  • Sanitize all equipment after use (including laser machine, diamond glow, etc.) and prepare it for subsequent use.
  • Manage medical supplies, restock as needed, and maintain organized storage areas. Communicate in writing to Susan regarding ordering additional supplies.
  • Check assigned tasks are completed accordingly, update patient information, and document clinical encounters accurately.
  • Complete pre-authorization for medication(s) as needed.
  • Refill liquid Nitrogen bottles daily.
  • Process medication refill requests and document in the patient chart.
  • Communicate with patients the day following their MOHS surgery, inquire about their condition, and record their status in the chart.
  • Maintain pathology log.

Job Type:

· Full-time: Current hours are 7:45am to 4:15pm

Experience

  • Dermatology knowledge is REQUIRED.
  • Experience with Modernizing Medicine software is a plus

Education

· HS Diploma of equivalent

Pay: From $23.00 per hour
