One strong bullet beats five weak ones. Every bullet on your resume competes for scarce attention from the ATS parser and the recruiter's 6-second scan. Here are 30+ before/after rewrites across common roles, each one using the same repeatable formula.

The formula

Every high-impact bullet fits this pattern:

[Strong verb] [specific scope] [how — with tools/ methods] [outcome + metric]

Skip any of those four elements and the bullet loses weight with both the ATS and the recruiter.

The universal "3 of 4" rule

Every bullet should have at least 3 of these 4:

  1. A strong verb (led / owned / shipped / drove / built / cut / grew — not "worked on" or "helped")
  2. A specific tool, framework, or domain phrase (Kubernetes, Figma, Postgres, B2B SaaS, etc.)
  3. A metric (%, $, time saved, scope of scale)
  4. A scope anchor (team size, revenue touched, user count)

Bullets with 3+ hit hard. Bullets with 4 hit harder. Bullets with fewer than 2 are carrying almost no weight and should be rewritten or deleted.

How to rewrite yours

Pick your 3 weakest bullets. For each, identify: what was the tool or method, what was the outcome, how big was the scope. Usually you know these numbers but didn't bother to write them. Add them in and re-voice the verb.

Then run the result through an ATS resume checker against a real JD. Every rewritten bullet moves your score 2-5 points. Three rewrites usually lifts you 10-15 points.
