Job Description: Position Purpose summary: The CSJ Caseworker will support our client assistance programs. The role will also help with organizing back to school backpack programs and other registration such as food assistance and camp registrations. Through frontline work, this role contributes to our local commitment, “We welcome neighbours into a community of hope.” The Caseworker is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver’s core values, ensure neighbour safety as required, demonstrate team collaboration, and provide support to our neighbours in an efficient, professional, and confidential manner. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary Full Time – 35 hours/wk. Monday – Friday, June 8, 2026 - August 28, 2026. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents. This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements, including age and legal status criteria. BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Caseworker provides ongoing supportive care, case work and referral services to individuals and/or their families. Support, advocate for, and refer neighbours/families in helping empower them to become more self-sufficient and help them re-integrate into the greater community. If applicable, provide spiritual care and use every opportunity to pray with and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with neighbors/families. Conduct initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports required by the individual. Through crisis and ongoing empathetic, supportive listening, assist individuals in determining appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal achievement processes; facilitate effective problem-solving behaviours of the neighbour/family. Provide a variety of casework duties, including analysis of data, progress reports, statistical recordings, formulation of plans and implementation of plans, consistent with program policies. May perform frontline intake case work. May assist in set up and take down of regular and weekly programs. Participate in case management meetings for the benefit of individuals served. Help with Pathway of Hope, kids’ camp, and Back to School initiatives as required. Provides relief for front desk reception and community fridge program when needed. Recommend and assist in the development of new program/policy initiatives to address ongoing neighbour needs. Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate files/case notes. Complete and submit Incident Reports for incidents occurring while on duty. Network with The Salvation Army and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of neighbours. Regularly attend to self-care through appropriate de-briefing, etc. The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. WORKING CONDITIONS: A busy office and day camp environment. May be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illnesses due to physical attacks by others (i.e., violent/aggressive neighbour), exposure to infectious diseases and other potentially dangerous situations. PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: Responsible to ensure personal and corporate attention to the following: Workplace Health and Safety Requirements Universal Precautions for Communicable Diseases Qualifications and Education requirements: EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS: The successful job applicant will have completed or working towards an Undergraduate University degree (e.g., B.A.). NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable. Studies in Social Services or Social Work or related field is an asset. EXPERIENCE: Experience working with marginalized communities and in the social services or non-profit sector. REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE: Strong communication skills – written and interpersonal. Organizational skills – scheduling, case management, record keeping. Technological skills – Microsoft Office and other software systems. PREFERRED COMPETENCIES: Creative and flexible with the ability to adapt based on team, program, and service needs. Adept at setting appropriate boundaries while remaining warm, personable and an inviting presence. Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide: Background check consent. A clear vulnerable sector screening. A clean drivers abstract. Completion of our online Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
