Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Senior Accountant to lead the financial reporting and month-end close process for a portfolio of nonprofit clients. In this role, you will work closely with internal accounting staff, client teams, and executive leadership to ensure the integrity of financial data and reporting. You will also support compliance, audit preparation, and the ongoing development of efficient accounting procedures tailored to the nonprofit sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements
• Collaborate with client development and program teams to design and manage tools for financial tracking, grant reporting, and budget monitoring
• Manage restricted funding activity, ensuring accurate funder reporting and variance analysis against budgets
• Work with internal teams to respond to evolving client needs including payroll tracking, regulatory compliance, and customized financial reports
• Maintain detailed documentation of accounting procedures and internal controls
• Prepare audit schedules and coordinate directly with external auditors and tax professionals
• Support the preparation of Form 990, charitable registrations, and other regulatory filings

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required (accounting knowledge will need to be top notch)
• CPA or CMA certification preferred
• 3–5 years of relevant experience, ideally with outsourced or multi-client accounting services
• Understanding of nonprofit accounting principles will help
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required
• Experience with Sage Intacct strongly preferred; QuickBooks Online or Desktop experience also acceptable
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with a commitment to client service and meeting deadlines
