Job Description
As a Network Engineering-Senior Engineer at Telstra, you play a critical role in ensuring the Telstra network delivers a superior experience for consumers and business customers. Your deep expertise in telecommunications network enables you to provide specialist analysis, design, development, and deployment in network-specific technology domains. By developing platform-specific technology roadmaps and making technology investment recommendations, you contribute significantly to the network's reliability, scalability, and performance.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Work independently to deliver assigned engineering outcomes end-to-end
- Drive work plans and day-to-day decisions aligned to defined mission goals and delivery milestones
- Provide technical leadership for a small team, setting direction and unblocking delivery
- Mentor engineers through coaching, technical review, and pairing to uplift capability and consistency
- Define and maintain engineering standards (design patterns, configuration baselines, testing practices, and quality gates)
- Own technical decision-making, including trade-offs across reliability, scalability, performance, and operational supportability
- Produce clear, high-quality technical designs that are reviewable, traceable, and implementation-ready
- Author and maintain Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for repeatable change execution
- Create and improve operational runbooks (fault isolation steps, recovery actions, and escalation pathways)
- Apply deep networking expertise to troubleshoot complex L2/L3 issues and improve network outcomes
- Champion an automation mindset by identifying repetitive work and creating reusable scripts, checks, and workflows
- Communicate technical context and decisions clearly in writing for engineers, operations, and stakeholders
- Operate as a senior, hands-on engineer, combining leadership with practical delivery and continuous improvement
- *Qualifications Required:**
- 510+ years experience in telecommunications carrier or large enterprise network environments
- Experience working within a telecommunications carrier (Telstra preferred)
- Deep L2/L3 networking expertise at CCNP (or equivalent) level
- Robust Linux operating system proficiency
- Network testing experience using IXIA (or equivalent)
- Proven experience writing and maintaining automation and tooling
- Strong scripting skills in Python
- Strong scripting skills in Bash
- Working knowledge of SQL for query
