Aerospace Design Engineer - SolidWorks - VA - June25 - 0125
Our client is seeking a Design Engineer with SolidWorks expertise to join our engineering team in Virginia who provides engineering and design services - including PMA and STC development. This role supports the design, development, and certification of aircraft modifications and components, including structural, mechanical, and avionics systems. You will work closely with FAA DERs and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative aerospace solutions under FAA, EASA, and CAA regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create 3D models and 2D drawings of aircraft structures, components, and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Design and document aircraft modifications, including structural, mechanical, avionics, and electrical systems.
- Develop wiring diagrams, harness routing, and electrical integration packages in coordination with engineering leads.
- Support STC/PMA certification efforts, including documentation for FAA, EASA, and CAA approvals.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineers to produce integrated system designs.
- Assist with rapid prototyping, stress and thermal analysis, and hardware selection.
- Participate in design reviews, configuration audits, and requirements verification activities.
- Interface with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure designs are production-ready and compliant.
- Maintain CAD files, design documentation, and configuration control records.
Qualifications
- BS in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering (or related)
- 3+ years of experience in aircraft design or aerospace engineering
- Proficient with SolidWorks; experience with AutoCAD a plus
- Experience in electrical harness/PCB design, mechanical/structural components, and system integration
- Familiarity with FAA DER processes; EASA / CAA certification experience preferred
- Solid understanding of airworthiness regulations (FAA, EASA, CAA)
- Experience with aircraft modifications, STC/PMA documentation
