Pay range: $122,000 per year - $172,000 per year CAD

JOB DESCRIPTION

Insight Global is seeking experienced Advanced Markets Underwriting Directors to join a growing insurance client focused on high-net-worth and large case business. This role is ideal for senior underwriting professionals with 10+ years of experience in individual life insurance and significant large case exposure, who are looking to operate at a highly strategic, client-facing level. In this role, you will act as a senior individual contributor, underwriting complex, high-value life insurance cases while mentoring and co-signing for less experienced underwriters.

You will work closely with advisors and MGAs to deliver a “white glove” experience on high-premium cases, ensuring clarity, confidence, and best-in-class decision-making. This position requires strong communication skills, deep expertise in both financial and medical underwriting, and the ability to navigate complex client structures (e.g., trusts, estates, corporate ownership). This is not a people management role, but rather a leadership position through influence, expertise, and mentorship.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

-10+ years of underwriting experience, primarily in individual life insurance (not group or affinity)

-Significant experience handling large case / high-net-worth business

-Strong signing authority (typically $8M–$10M+ life insurance; CI exposure)

-Experience with holistic underwriting (both financial and medical assessment)

-Deep understanding of complex financial structures (e.g., trusts, corporations, estates, succession planning, intergenerational wealth)

-Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with advisors and MGAs in a highly collaborative, client-facing environment

-Ability to mentor, guide, and co-sign for junior underwriters (informal leadership experience)

-Experience with retention strategies (e.g., jumbo limits, auto-bind, stacking authority)

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

-Experience in reinsurance underwriting (e.g., RGA, Swiss Re, Munich Re, PartnerRe, Gen Re, etc.)

-Bilingual (French/English); additional languages such as Cantonese or Mandarin are a strong asset -Background working with MGAs or national account distribution channels
