Job description
The Utility Manager is responsible for managing and maintaining all utility systems in the pharmaceutical plant to ensure uninterrupted production operations. This includes HVAC, water systems, boilers, compressors, and other critical utilities while ensuring compliance with GMP and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain all plant utilities such as HVAC, Chillers, Boilers, Air Compressors, DG Sets, and Water Systems (Purified Water, WFI).
- Ensure continuous availability of utilities for production and other operations.
- Monitor utility performance and optimize energy consumption and cost.
- Ensure compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and regulatory standards.
- Oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance of utility equipment.
- Handle validation and qualification of utility systems (HVAC, water system, etc.).
- Maintain documentation related to utilities (logbooks, SOPs, calibration records).
- Coordinate with QA, Production, and external vendors for smooth operations.
- Ensure safety, environmental, and statutory compliance.
- Manage AMC (Annual Maintenance Contracts) and vendor performance.
- Lead and train the utility/maintenance team.
- Participate in audits and regulatory inspections (WHO, USFDA, etc.).
Requirements
- Education: B.E / B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
- Experience: 2–3years in utility/engineering roles in pharma industry, with team handling experience
Skills
- Strong knowledge of pharma utility systems (HVAC, WFI, , etc.)
- Understanding of GMP and regulatory compliance
- Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting skills
- Team management and leadership abilities
- Energy management and cost optimization
- Good documentation and reporting skills
