Job Description

Do you have experience in the development of public policy or regulation? We are looking for a temporary policy analyst to develop and present draft policy and regulation proposals, assist with the public consultation process, provide advice, and perform duties related to our statutory and legal responsibilities under the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. You'll take on projects and work with subject matter experts to research, develop, and recommend policy and regulatory language to the Board of Directors to address complex issues. These issues relate to diverse subject areas such as law, compensation, assessment, prevention, occupational disease, and occupational hygiene.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to support the development of effective policies that make a difference in the lives of workers and employers in British Columbia.

This is a temporary role for 12 months.

You'll help ensure WorkSafeBC engages with B.At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond Office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.Assist in developing policy and regulation proposals to support legislative, regulatory, and policy revisions, including conducting jurisdictional and appellate research

Participate in the public consultation process regarding policy and regulation development

Attend meetings and consultations to present draft policy and regulatory proposals

Prepare discussion papers, memoranda, and other materials related to compensation, assessment, prevention, and occupational health and safety matters

Develop a comprehensive knowledge of WorkSafeBC policy, regulation, and practice

Effectively communicate in writing and when presenting information orally to a variety of audiences

Be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

An undergraduate degree in law or other related fields such as occupational hygiene, engineering, public administration, or business administration

A minimum of two years of experience in the interpretation and application of legislative and/or regulatory requirements is preferred

Working knowledge of one or more of the following areas is preferred: health and safety regulations, the Workers Compensation Act, workers' compensation policy and practice, or statistical analysis
