Role Overview
The Canadian Mental Health Association – Halton Region Branch (CMHA Halton) is currently seeking a final year student or recent grad in Social Work or Psychology for an 8-week full-time placement (35 hours per week). This opportunity is ideal for someone in their final year of a Master of Social Work (MSW) program, completing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, or working toward registration as a Psychologist or Psychotherapist. The successful candidate will apply their assessment skills in a quality-focused, community-based role. Applicants should have a strong understanding of risk assessments and a demonstrated interest in delivering high-quality care to clients.
This position will be responsible for supporting our quality control efforts on our crisis team. Client calls are recorded to ensure ongoing appropriate client care and to also develop our staff in building their skills in providing timely and comprehensive support to clients in a mental health crisis.
This position will be responsible for reviewing calls which includes but is not limited to assessing that a risk assessment was successfully completed, safety plans were created when necessary and that the questions asked in any given situation are meeting the needs of the client and are in line with our crisis protocols.
Calls can be reviewed at a time that works best for the student but this position is for 35 hours per week. This role will be a hybrid role with some hours onsite required onsite at our Oakville location. However, the majority of hours can be completed remotely.
Position Requirements:
In accordance with the Ontario Summer Jobs program you must meet the below minimum qualifications;
- Be between the ages of 15-30 years of age
- You are required to be living in Ontario during the term of employment
- You must be legally entitled to work in Canada for the full duration of the employment period and have a valid Social Insurance Number upon being hired
Skills Needed:
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel and prior experience using Client Information System would be helpful
- Ability to speak a second language would be considered an asset
- The successful candidate must pass a vulnerable screening check
