Job Title: Journeyman Electrician

Job Description

This role is a contract-to-hire opportunity for an experienced Journeyman Electrician to support electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work in Washington, D.C. You will work primarily on tunnel infrastructure, ensuring safe and reliable operation of a wide range of electrical systems and equipment while adhering to NEC standards and traffic safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and remove safe Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T.) control, including cones, message and arrow boards, temporary signage, and other traffic control devices.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment such as transformers, switchboards, panel boards, conduit systems, disconnects, contactors, circuit breakers, motor starters, relays, controllers, motors, heaters, CCTV cameras, lane control signals, electronic message signs, lighting, PLCs, and VFDs.
  • Apply advanced troubleshooting skills to accurately diagnose causes of faults across a full range of electrical assets and systems in a timely manner.
  • Perform repairs that are cost-effective, reliable, and compliant with NEC standards and requirements.
  • Maintain high-quality workmanship on all installations, maintenance tasks, and repairs.
  • Collaborate effectively with other trades, internal teams, and inspectors to complete projects and resolve issues.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repair of structures as needed to support electrical work.
  • Participate in emergency response rotations and remain available for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician.
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment including transformers, switchboards, panel boards, conduit systems, disconnects, contactors, circuit breakers, motor starters, relays, controllers, motors, heaters, CCTV cameras, lane control signals, electronic message signs, lighting, PLCs, and VFDs.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC codes and requirements.
  • Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills across a broad range of electrical systems and assets.
  • Ability to maintain consistent, high-quality workmanship in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other trades, teams, and inspectors.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime, evenings, weekends, holidays, and participate in emergency response rotations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Any additional electrical knowledge beyond the core requirements is a plus.
  • Experience working with Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T.) setups and traffic control devices is highly beneficial.
  • Familiarity with tunnel or similar infrastructure environments is advantageous.

Work Environment

The role is based on projects in Washington, D.C., with primary work performed in tunnel environments. You will work the night shift from Sunday through Thursday. The position is with a contractor-focused operation, supporting infrastructure projects that require safe work practices, adherence to traffic control procedures, and comfort working in an underground setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Washington, DC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
